Dan and Cheryl have trekked on six continents, mainly self-guiding expeditions in the world's most beautiful mountain ranges. In 2010, they started the International Alpine Club (IAC) website, having previously completed successful careers as financial services executives in New York City and San Francisco. The purpose of the IAC is to share trekking experiences, and provide information on destinations, logistics, and gear.
In addition to backpacking in remote wilderness areas, Dan and Cheryl are advocates of hut-to-hut trekking: hike with a lightweight pack, and instead of spending the night in a tent, spend it in a rustic hut, with a room or bunk bed, hearty cuisine, beer or wine, and usually a shower. It's a great way to enjoy the experience of local mountain cultures, and meet fellow hikers from all over the world.
An Eagle Scout from the Pacific Northwest, Dan hiked extensively as a teen throughout the Cascade and Olympic mountains of Washington State. A summer in France as an exchange student triggered his love of travel and foreign places. Cheryl traveled frequently from an early age and never really slowed down. As head of global trade for a multinational bank, she combined the satisfaction of advising international trading partners with a zeal for negotiating different cultures and geographies. Navigating hut-to-hut itineraries in foreign mountain ranges completes her love of adventure.
Adventure travel was always an integral part of life for Cheryl and Dan, and they continue to find extreme pleasure in exploring new treks, and sharing these wonders with fellow travelers.
